Psychometric measurement is literally a system for measuring facets of our mind and any element of our personality, from hand-eye co-ordination, to high level cognitive operations such as spatial reasoning.
Used properly, psychometric measurements can be remarkably accurate in working out who we are, or in comparing us to others. It is not a simple field. There is a bewildering array of measures available and the science is developing all the time.
Rather than ‘test’, we prefer the term ‘measurement’. It is not an exam that you either pass or fail and you are not ‘on trial’. We are more concerned with describing rather than judging a person's abilities or aptitudes. Where necessary, we use this to understand and remove limitations, showing what someone is suited to doing, or what needs to be worked on so they can get where they want to be.
At Ignition we view psychometric measurements as highly valuable tools, but any tool needs a skilful operator. The most value comes from selecting the right inventories, not interpreting them in isolation, and having a skilful consultant that gets beneath the surface and assesses what’s relevant and what’s not.
Students can often feel confused and unmotivated in senior high school. Many feel the pressure to have their career choices worked out where they must make subject and university decisions which will significantly influence their future direction. The program allows students to explore their unique abilities and strengths, thus providing motivation and focus for the future. As a result they develop more self-awareness and can make informed choices; focusing on areas they'll 'thrive' in. After feedback, both parents and teachers have a much better understanding of the student’s profile and key areas of strength.
‘Turn Key’ is designed to compliment and enhance the work of Tertiary Advisers and Career teachers, and is delivered in a professional and highly structured manner. Careers advisers rarely have the necessary time to undertake such an in-depth analysis and consultation for students. Turn Key provides a comprehensive profile of each student, thus setting the platform for Careers & Tertiary advisers to focus their advice around.
When an appointment time is confirmed, you / your child will complete a series of psychometric inventories online, taking approximately 90 minutes.
Following this, a career coaching consultation takes place where their results are communicated, interpreted and discussed, specific recommendations made and a career action plan / roadmap generated. This usually takes approximately 2 hours.
After the consultation, a comprehensive report is written summarizing all discussion points and recommendations. This is emailed to you usually the following day.
Yes. Parents are encouraged to attend the consultation. It is widely acknowledged that parents have a significant influence over career pathways chosen by their children. By being involved, parents are able to gain a greater awareness of their children’s unique gifts and talents, and support them appropriately.
Whilst similar to the Turn - Key student service, the process is much more comprehensive given your level of life and / or career experience. After booking, additional psychometric inventories might be recommended, depending on your circumstances. These can take up to a couple of hours to complete. A detailed career coaching consultation is then conducted where your results are analysed, allowing rich information to be generated about yourself and career goals established. This usually takes a minimum of 2 hours.
Following the consultation, a comprehensive report is written summarizing the discussion and specific recommendations. The report is emailed to you within two days.
